Kadas Opening

Kadas Opening

The Kadas Opening, also known as the Anti-Borg Opening, the Samurai Opening, and the Harry’s Opening, is a chess opening that begins with the move 1.h4. It is a very rare opening, and is not considered to be very strong. It is an uncommon and somewhat eccentric opening choice for White.

The move 1.h4 is considered to be a very passive move, as it does not immediately develop any pieces and can be met by a variety of counterattacks by Black. However, the opening can also lead to some interesting and sharp positions if White plays carefully.

The primary idea behind 1. h4 is to control the g5 square, prepare for a fianchetto of the bishop, and create pawn weaknesses in the opponent’s camp.

Here’s a common continuation after 1. h4:

  1. h4

From this point, the game can evolve in various ways based on both sides’ responses.

For example, if Black plays 1…e5, the game can transpose into a number of different openings, including the Sicilian Defense, the French Defense, and the Pirc Defense. Black can also play 1…d5, which leads to a more closed position.

Instructive Chess Games: Kadas Opening

The Kadas Opening is not as popular or well-established as many other chess openings, and its success often depends on catching opponents off guard or steering the game into less explored positions.
